Six run for City Council; three run for Mayor

Six run for City Council; three run for Mayor

There are three official candidates to fill one mayor seat. Those running include: Herb Atchison (whose first four-year term has ended), Bruce Baker and Rich Seymour.

In addition, there are six official candidates to fill three seats on Westminster City Council in the Nov. 7 election. The slate includes: Mark Clark, David DeMott, Jackson Dreiling, Emma Pinter, Kathryn Skulley and Lindsey Smith.

Tyler Anderson withdrew his name from the ballot for the office of City Councillor. It was determined by the City Clerk’s office that Mr. Anderson’s voter registration record had not been updated by the deadline of Aug. 28 to reflect his current Westminster residence, therefore making him ineligible.

The three City Council positions are available since Mayor Pro Tem Alberto Garcia is not running for re-election, Councillor Bruce Baker is running for Mayor and Councillor Emma Pinter’s first four-year term has ended.

The city is considered one ward and all candidates run and are elected on an at-large basis without regard to political affiliation. The three City Council candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to four-year terms that will commence on Monday, Nov. 13.

The Mayor seat must receive at least 40 percent of votes cast to be elected.

More information about the candidates will be posted on the city's website in early October.

Candidates drew names for the ballot order in both counties. View the final ballot order - Adams and Jefferson Counties.

The November 2017 election will be a coordinated election conducted by the Adams County and Jefferson County clerks with mail ballots. Ballots will be sent to eligible voters residing in Westminster between Oct. 16-20.

Ballots cannot be forwarded and will be mailed to your last known address of record. Verify your voter information.  If you do not receive a ballot by Oct. 25, contact your County Clerk (Jefferson County Elections Office, 303-271-8111; Adams County Elections Office, 720-523-6500).

Election questions (besides those about voter registration) should be directed to the Westminster City Clerk’s Office at 303-658-2161 or 303-658-2162.
