104th Avenue Waterline Replacement Project

Project Update - Oct. 4

The contractor has completed the installation of the water main to just west of Hooker Street, near the city’s water tank site. Construction will continue through the fall and will include water quality and pressure testing of the new main, connections to existing residential mains, connection to the city’s water tank site, and final paving.  The connections to the residential mains will occur at the street intersections, including Lowell Boulevard, and will require temporary traffic control shifts with detours and lane closures.  Safety of the public and of the contractor crews is of the utmost importance and abiding by all construction-related signs is greatly appreciated.

Project Details

For the past several years, the City of Westminster has been coordinating the replacement of aging infrastructure in 104th Avenue. To date construction improvements have included water valve replacement and work by Xcel Energy.

The next improvements involve construction of a new water transmission main to replace aging water systems that have reach the end of their useful life. The new water transmission main will be installed in 104th Avenue between Sheridan Boulevard and Hooker Street (see map).

As part of the project, resurfacing of 104th Avenue between Sheridan Boulevard and Federal Boulevard will also be completed. The new water main will serve a large area of Westminster. Connections to the new water main will be sequenced to minimize service interruptions as much as possible.

Project Timeline

Construction is scheduled to start in March and will extend through the fall.

Project Hours

Normal work hours will be Monday through Friday beginning no earlier than 7 a.m. and ending by 5 p.m.

Special circumstances may arise requiring extended work hours and in some locations nighttime and weekend construction will be necessary to avoid times of higher traffic volume.

Project Safety

During working hours, construction equipment will be in operation and some materials may be stockpiled close to the work area. The contractor, Northern Colorado Constructors, Inc., will maintain traffic control during construction and will maintain access to side streets and parking lots as much as possible. However, temporary lane closures, sidewalk closures and detours may occur.

Safety of the pedestrian, biking, motoring public and of the contractor crews is of the utmost importance. Assistance in abiding by all construction related signs is greatly appreciated. Should you observe an emergency situation please call 911.
