Colorful Colorado Cinema: San Luis Valley and Cinema on the Plains

View a free series of short films from “Colorado Experience,” a weekly history series produced by Rocky Mountain PBS. Westminster Public Library staff facilitates a discussion after the films. Feel free to bring a brown bag lunch. 

San Luis Valley- Nestled between the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the scenic San Luis Valley holds a rich history for South-Central Colorado. Travel to San Luis, founded in 1851. Step inside the Valley’s beautifully preserved 19th Century churches. Explore the agricultural legacies from La Vega, an expansive communal
pasture land, to The People’s Ditch, a canal that holds the earliest water rights in the state.

Cinema on the Plains- From 1910 through the 1950s, movie theaters served as social and community hubs for many Eastern Colorado towns. From original popcorn machines to 3D screens, discover how the theaters of the Eastern Plains continue to serve as community hubs.
