Date – June 3, 2019

The suspect in this incident was arrested on May 29, 2019 and has been identified as Michael James Kellogg.

Any additional questions should be directed to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.

On May 22, 2019 around 11:00am officers responded to Big Dry Creek Trail west of highway 36 – near the tunnel.

A female victim said she was running east on the Big Dry Creek Trail west of US36.  As she approached the tunnel under US36 she saw a male step off the trail as she approached him.  As the female victim got closer the male touched himself inappropriately and began to run after her. The female victim yelled for two other runners in the area and called police, the male fled the area.

The female victim was able to point out a general direction the male had fled to and officers contacted a male subject who matched the description in the area.  After reviewing cameras in the area of the trail, the male was identified and arrested on the charge of indecent exposure.

We are asking if anyone has any information on this incident or feels they may have been a victim of inappropriate behavior in this same area to contact Detective Troy Gordanier at 303 658 4264

At this time we are not releasing the identity of the suspect due to the potential of additional victim’s and the need to possibly conduct photo line ups.  Once we reach a point in the investigation where we are confident we have identified any potential victim’s we will release suspect information.

There is no ongoing danger to the public from this incident.

The Westminster Police Department wants to reassure the public incidents like this will not be tolerated, and we will make every effort to keep these areas safe. Our trails, open spaces and parks are a place for our residents to enjoy the beauty of our city.
