Subject: Second Suspect Identified in Officer Involved Shooting

Date – August 3, 2018

Yesterday around 2:10p.m. Westminster Police responded to a call of a theft in progress that was occurring in the 11800 block of Sheridan Blvd. Officers were advised that a male suspect threatened loss prevention personnel with a knife. 

One adult male suspect fled on foot and another adult male suspect fled in a car. Officers located the suspect in the car as it was leaving the area. The male driver eluded officers and officers pursued the car.  Officers made multiple attempts to disable the car.  The male driver tried to hit an officer who was out of his patrol car. The officer then fired his gun and struck the male driver. The male suspect was transported to an area hospital, and was later pronounced deceased. 

The second suspect who fled on foot was taken into custody by other officers in the area. He is identified as:

Valencia, Jousha (DOB 03/23/1974)

Valencia was charged with: 18-4-401(1)(2)(D) Theft of $300 or more but less than $750.

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Team will be investigating the incident.

The officer involved in the incident was not injured.

The male suspect was transported to an area hospital, and was later pronounced deceased.

The second suspect who fled on foot was taken into custody by other officers in the area.

We do not believe there is any danger to the public at this point.

The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Team will be investigating the incident.

The officer involved in the incident was not injured.

The 120th Avenue frontage road is closed between Chase St. and Sheridan Blvd.
