City cancels Fourth of July fireworks display

The city’s annual Fourth of July fireworks has been canceled due to the COVID-19 public health crisis and the state’s ban on large gatherings.

“As this is one of the city’s biggest events, we are saddened to have to cancel the event,” said Parks, Recreation and Libraries Director Jason Genck. “However, the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department is hard at work finalizing details on alternative entertainment to celebrate the holiday! Watch for more information coming soon.”

Keep in mind that fireworks that explode, emit a loud bang, leave the ground due to an explosive charge, or fly through the air self-propelled are always illegal for people to handle, possess, sell, storage, and/or use within the city.

Permissible fireworks are “non -explosive” pyrotechnics that are not intended to leave the ground or create a loud noise and include:

  • Fountains
  • Ground Spinners
  • Illuminating torches
  • Dipped sticks and sparklers
  • Trick noise makers

These types of fireworks are allowed from midnight Friday, July 3 until noon Sunday, July 5.

For chronic violators, anonymous tips can be left at 303-706-3812. Officers will contact the home/violator, but cannot issue a summons.

If there is a fire or injury related to fireworks, please call 911.

Have a fun and safe Fourth of July!
