City Council interviewing applicants for vacancy

The City of Westminster received 60 applications for the vacancy on City Council created by the Dec. 3 resignation of Mayor Pro Tem Maria De Cambra. 

Public interviews with each candidate and City Council will take place on Thursday, Dec. 13, Friday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 16. Agendas for the meetings are being posted on the city website as interview schedules are finalized.

The new councillor will be selected by the current City Council and sworn in on Monday, Dec. 17, during the regular City Council meeting, and will serve the remainder of De Cambra's term which was until November 2019. 

Per Section 5.7(a) of the Westminster City Charter, the City Council has 30 days (until Jan. 2, 2019) to fill the vacancy. The Dec. 17 meeting is the last meeting of the year before Jan. 2.
