Council selects Mahnke to fill vacancy

Westminster City Council on Dec. 17 selected Sheela Mahnke to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mayor Pro Tem Maria De Cambra.

Mahnke is a pediatrician at Every Child Pediatrics in Thornton, a nonprofit providing comprehensive, affordable health care to over 22,000 Colorado children. She has also worked as a pediatrician in Boulder and Broomfield.

She is a 16-year resident of Westminster and served on the city’s Environmental Advisory Board.

Mahnke was selected by an open vote of City Council in the second round of roll call votes. Others receiving votes were Davinder Singh Sandhu, Rich Seymour, Ariel T. Smith and Christopher Stimpson.

Following the vote, Mahnke was sworn in to office by Municipal Judge Tiffany Sorice and seated as a member of City Council.

In her application, Mahnke said, “I would like to serve on City Council because I love the City of Westminster and want to make a difference in my community. I am particularly interested in promoting human health and well-being, protecting the environment, and assuring that residents feel engaged in decisions that the City Council is making.”
