Council to hold special study sessions on water and sewer rates

The city will be holding four City Council special study sessions beginning Thursday, Oct. 8, to discuss water and sewer infrastructure, costs, rates and future community engagement.

The study sessions will be held virtually and will be open to the public to view and listen. They will not be interactive.

The study sessions will be held virtually on Oct. 8, Oct. 20, Nov. 5, and Nov. 17 from 6-8 p.m.

Meetings to gather public input will be held following the study sessions based on direction from City Council.

“We’ve heard from residents that are frustrated over high water bills. The financial impacts of COVID-19 and a severe drought understandably amplify these concerns,” said Public Works and Utilities Director Max Kirschbaum. “This series of meetings will allow Council to review every aspect of rates from infrastructure needs to rate structure and set a path forward for additional community engagement on the issue.”

They can be viewed online by going to www.cityofwestminster.us/2022rates or listened to by calling (631) 992-3221 and entering access code 631-321-957.
