Improvements coming for England Park Greenhouse Center

The Parks, Recreation and Libraries (PRL) Department is expanding the England Park Greenhouse Center, located at 7152 Raleigh St. Improvements include building a second greenhouse (6,000 square feet), a small office building for staff (1,800 square feet) and site enhancements. The project will also help to integrate the operations facility into the neighborhood by adding decorative metal fencing, landscaping and sidewalks along the perimeter. A plaza and demonstration gardens are included in the plans and will be open to the public, likely during standard business hours.

History: The property was purchased by the city in 1956, and currently PRL operates a greenhouse to grow annuals and other plants to enhance city parks, golf courses, gateways and other public properties. In 1995, the city built the current 6,000 square foot greenhouse on Raleigh Street, which currently produces over 35,000 plants a year. The city’s parks and public spaces have increased substantially over the last 24 years, and more parks are anticipated to be developed at Westminster Station and Downtown Westminster in the near future.
