Westminster Station Park: Nature Playground project

Project Overview
The $6 million dollar project is located at 3501 Creekside Drive on the northeast corner of Lowell Blvd. and Creekside Drive across the street from the Little Dry Creek Dog Park. The signature feature of Westminster Station Park – Phase 1 is a nature playground with a mini mountain and switchback trail to reach a series of tree houses connected via bridge, embankment slides, climbing structures made of natural materials, a sand play feature, and a water play feature. A restroom and picnic pavilion will provide necessary infrastructure to support the unique, regional playground. Landscaping, irrigation, site lighting and furnishings will also be installed. Accessibility and sustainability are critical elements of the design. The development of the nature playground includes additional stormwater management in an effort to emphasize Little Dry Creek as a stormwater innovation corridor.
To leverage additional funds for construction, several grants were pursued. The City was awarded $506,000 from an Adams County Open Space grant; $350,000 from a Great Outdoors Colorado Local Park and Outdoor Recreation grant; and $200,000 from the Westminster Legacy Foundation, which includes a grant from The Colorado Health Foundation.

Construction activities began in October 2020 and are estimated to be completed in the fall of 2021.

Project Impact
The work in the park will have limited closures on the regional Little Dry Creek Trail, Creekside Drive and Lowell Boulevard as utility connections are completed. Pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular detours will be posted on this site and signed in the field as needed.
