The city, in partnership with the following medical providers, offers free access to Westminster Recreation Centers and health coaching in partnership with the YMCA. To get a referral to the program please check with your primary care physician and ask about the RX for Health Program.

Evidence based Fitness Programs

Evidence based fitness program are scientifically proven to:

  • Improve quality of life
  • Increase self-efficacy in managing ones health
  • Increase or maintain independence
  • Increase positive health behaviors and mobility
  • Reduce disability (fewer falls, later onset or fewer years of disability, etc.)
  • Reduce pain
  • Improve mental health (including the delays in loss of cognitive function and positive effects on depressive tymptoms)

Fit and Strong!
Fit & Strong! is an exercise program with an emphasis on behavior change for older adults with lower extremity osteoarthritis. Fit & Strong! includes 60 minutes of exercise, and 30 minutes of health education and group discussion. Fit & Strong! will help you: manage arthritis, exercise safely, decrease joint pain & stiffness, improve daily function, and reduce anxiety & depression. FREE for SilverSneakers® pass holders!

Walk With Ease
Whether you need relief from arthritis pain or just want to be more active, the Arthritis Foundation’s six-week Walk With Ease program can teach you how to safely make physical activity part of your everyday life. Studies show that this program is proven to reduce arthritis pain, increase balance, strength and walking pace, build confidence and improve overall health. FREE for SilverSneakers® pass holders!

Diabetes Prevention Program and Journey to Wellness

Free educational classes are offered for adults at Westminster Recreation Centers to build the skills needed to lose weight, improve health, and reduce the risk of chronic disease.
