PLEASE NOTE: The City of Westminster has taken additional precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Many of our staff continue to work remotely and may be away from their offices. In an attempt to provide a safe environment for our employees and to serve the general public the Building Division is continuing building inspections while taking additional precautions and measures at this time - please see details below.

  • Building inspections should be scheduled online through eTRAKiT.  All inspections will be conducted as normal as long as social distancing can be achieved and maintained. However, interior building and electrical inspections will not be performed in person within occupied buildings (please see additional information below). If an inspector deems it necessary to do the inspection via a virtual option an email will be sent to the applicant the morning of the scheduled inspection with further details on how the virtual inspection will be conducted.
  • Regarding building inspections and new safety protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic: In response to updated CDPHE and local health orders, specific changes are being put in place to help protect inspection staff as well as job site personnel. Interior building and electrical inspections will not be performed in person within occupied buildings. Inspectors will only inspect areas of the building that have been vacated prior to their arrival, assuring that they will not come into contact with workers at any point during their site visit.     Obtaining a building permit alone will not assure the work has been done correctly.  Inspection of the work is the most important part of the process.  Having the work inspected will provide you with the assurance that the work has been properly completed. This will also provide a permanent record of compliance with building code requirements.

    Building permits provide the means for city building inspectors to inspect construction projects to ensure that minimum standards are met and appropriate materials are used. Inspection is the only way to independently verify that you comply with the adopted building codes. As a homeowner, you have a substantial investment that can be seriously jeopardized through less-than-complete code compliance. For insurance reasons, resale, refinancing and peace of mind, obtaining a permit is the right decision.

    Purchasing Materials (Tax Free)
