Municipal Court

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: ALL MUNICIPAL COURT MATTERS WILL BE HANDLED BY PHONE OR VIDEO

If you are scheduled to appear before the Westminster Municipal Court, your hearing will now be conducted by phone or video until further order of the Court. Please follow these instructions:  

  1. Watch the rights advisal video found below.
  2. The Court Clerk will call you at the phone number on your summons. If that number has changed, you will need to contact the Court Clerk at 303-658-2250 before your court date. 
  3. All attorney client consultations and plea negotiations are expected to occur before your hearing date and time. If additional time is needed, you may request a continuance for another court date. The Court will consider continuances on a case-by-case basis.
  4. If the Court is unable to reach you by phone on the date and time on your summons, it will be considered a failure to appear and a warrant may issue
  5. There are other matters scheduled at the same time as yours. Please be patient. If you do not hear from the Court within an hour of your hearing, you may call the Court Clerk to get an update.

If you appear in-person for your hearing, you will be directed to return to your vehicle and await a call from the Court Clerk.  If you are a victim on a case, please contact the victim services office at 303-658-4210 to receive further direction. 

If you need to reschedule your hearing, you may request a continuance by contacting the Court Clerk.  Continuances will be permitted on a case by case basis.

Notice Regarding Jury Trial Moratorium:

Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in both Adams and Jefferson Counties, the Westminster Municipal Court will not be conducting jury trials until at least Wednesday, Dec. 9.  At that time, the Court will reassess the risk level and provide updated information. Read the Court's Presiding Order regarding these actions. If you do not know the status of your case, please contact the Court Clerk. 

Warrant Surrenders:

If you have an active warrant on your case, or are unsure of the status of your case, you may contact the Court Clerk at 303-658-2250 for more information.

Our mission is to administer equitable, fair, and impartial justice in a timely and courteous manner; protect fundamental rights; promote public safety; and facilitate community reparation through SPIRIT.

The Municipal Court handles violations of the Westminster Municipal Code and the Colorado Model Traffic Code for both juveniles and adults.  Cases commence with a Summons, Affidavit in support of a Warrantless Arrest or Application for an Arrest Warrant.  The Summons contains information to include if a mandatory court appearance is required, if the matter can be handled with a signature and payment or if there is an early payment point reduction option. 

Information on this site applies only to the Westminster Municipal Court. The Westminster Police Department also writes summons into Adams County Court or Jefferson County Court. If you have been ordered to appear at the Westminster Municipal Court the court's name and address will be listed below the signature box on the front of the summons.

City ordinances, court rules and state statutes govern the court's proceedings. Court employees are not allowed to give legal advice, but are happy to answer procedural questions.

All Westminster Municipal Court Presiding Orders, including those relating to COVID-19, are available for review upon request at the Municipal Court Clerk's Office.

Business hours: Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Courthouse will be closed from 12:15 - 1:15 p.m. each day for lunch hour.  The Courthouse is closed on Fridays.
